Root wastewater treatment plant

Root wastewater treatment plant

Root wastewater treatment plant is actually such a small natural wetland.
It issed to clean wastewater from households. According to previous experience from home and abroad, this technology is in its effect fully comparable with other commonly used technologies. Its advantage is the minimum cost of operation. No need for electrical energy for the pump drive and the like. The cleaning efficiency is not dependent upon a steady supply of waste water. Handle intermittent shock loads and lost of waste production. Root wastewater treatment plant creates an interesting dominant feature and helps to maintain a favorable climate in your area.

The plant forms these objects:

  • Tailing pond (septic tank)
  • Pulse shaft
  • Root filter
  • Regulating shaft
  • Garden pond / soak facility

Tailing pond

Tailing pond is used for the initial establishment of the sludge and mechanical pretreatment black waste water, i.e. water from the toilet. In case of gray waste water (from sinks, showers, dishwashers and washing machines) need not be tailing pond and it can go directly to the root area. Tailing pond is implemented as a three-compartment plastic septic tank.

Pulse shaft

In recent years begun to promote root array with vertical flow filter in comparison with previously used horizontal filters. Vertical filter needs dosed waste water with a certain impulse, so that spilled over the entire surface area and not just in front of. That is why the pulse shaft is used.

Root filter

Wastewater go from pulse shafts to the root filter. It is structurally shallow ground tank, 80 cm deep. The bottom of a 1% slope and sides of the tank are covered with waterproof foil.
Filter surface is dimensioned so that each inhabitant accounted for at least 5 m2. The filter is composed of pebbles of different factions. The tank is filled with water approximately 10 cm below the surface of the filter. It is thus conceivable that the tank will hatch mosquitoes. The root field is planted with wetland plants such as: Iris pseudacorus, Iris sibirica, Filipendula ulmaria, Juncus effusus, Scirpus sylvaticus. At the roots of plants there live bacteria that decompose dirt with aerobic process.

Regulating shaft

In the control shaft it may be simple to regulate the water level in the root field and take samples for control measuring of the effectiveness of cleaning. The control shaft is positioned at the root array.

Garden pond / soak facility

Garden pond is the last stage of cleaning process. It serves for capture and purification of waste water from the root filter. Water from the pond can be used for watering gardens.
The garden pond can sometimes be replaced by a soakaway. It is necessary to inform at the office, whether locally it is possible. Or whether it is possible to discharge waste water from the root array into a local stream.
